Here are the prints of Buddha's feet, the buddhapada, in the center, symbolizing both the Buddha's presence and his absence since his ascent to nirvana. This reminds us of the goal and worthiness of nonattachment. The upper inside rim is decorated with the symbols of the OM mantra. The carving is matched by the etching. The mantra is repeated in circular form around the outside, and the bottom is graced with the flower of life. There is great subtlety of detail, the bowl must be examined closely to see it all, every detail delights the eye.
